My Thoughts on The Issues

America, a land of prosperity and opportunity, has changed. The land we once knew that was a refuge for Jews and others alike who came over looking for a new opportunity is now a place of judgment and harsh words. We hear a lot of words like border control, illegal immigrants, and job loss. I have lived in three southern states, Florida, Virginia and North Carolina and when I go to the store I see Mexicans coming 8 or 9 in a van to go shopping.
I asked myself the question, “Why do so many people have to come shopping at once if illegal immigrants are stealing all of our available jobs?” The answer is simple, it’s right in front of us, and we aren’t losing our jobs. If we do not provide amnesty to people trying to start a better life, people like the Jews who came over during WWII to find refuge from Hitler and his horrible acts then we aren’t America. We help people. We invaded Afghanistan to help the people rid the country of terrorists; we invaded Iraq to help the world get rid of WMD’s.
We, as Americans, often forget the old adage “judge not lest ye be judged.” This is a big moral point in my ideology. I don’t judge illegal immigrants for coming over to America. If I lived in Detroit and saw Canada across the Great Lakes I’d make the swim for it. We as American’s, caring and loving people, should not judge gays, illegal immigrants or people who don’t have health insurance.
The topic of Health Insurance Reform is a controversial subject for both sides of the political aisle. Both sides will tell you there is a problem with the system but neither side will make a deal without corporations playing a part and this plays a major role in why we almost lost Health Care Reform. American’s want Health Care Reform, it’s a human right. It works in Britain and the people are thankful for the National Health System, they know if their daughter or son or wife or husband or ANY member of their family gets sick or hurt they can get the help they need when they need it and not be turned down for preexisting conditions. I love the Health Care Reform we passed; it’s one of the most important pieces of legislation we’ve passed in the 20th and 21st century. The common Republican argument I hear from opponents of National Health Care Reform is that the people who don’t have health insurance are too lazy to get jobs, that’s not true; I’m a living example of that.
I’ll leave you this final though: If the Indians had adapted an Immigration Reform there would be no America. We can find the money to fund two wars that did nothing for America or the world, we can fund Health Care Reform, we have the money.
